MailCraft

What's new in MailCraft

MailCraft is in beta, with new test builds every few days. Every build, with its files and checksums, is on the releases page.

  • Colours of your own: eight accent colours or any other, each adjusted so text stays readable in light and dark mode, and a plain top bar if you prefer.
  • Exchange's directory (the Global Address List) is searched as you type a name, on your own Exchange server and on Microsoft 365, so new colleagues are found right away.
  • An Exchange account can send the User-Agent its server lets in.
  • Arabic and Hebrew mirror the whole window, with mixed-direction text drawn in the right order.
  • Screen readers hear what every button, folder and message is.
  • Closing MailCraft while it's minimized, or with ⌘Q on a Mac, asks before a message you're writing is lost.
  • Clearer edges on the ribbon, buttons and menus; the System theme follows Linux and BSD desktops; packages install on openSUSE.

0.26 October 25, 2026

  • The classic ribbon: big buttons in named groups, under View › Classic ribbon.
  • Renewed S/MIME certificates keep the old one, so mail encrypted to it still opens.
  • Calendars and contacts found for more providers (Posteo among them), or set up by hand at an address with an app password of its own.
  • Updates that finish: once a new build is downloaded and checked, a bar offers Restart now, closing asks whether to install it, and a download cut off carries on where it stopped.
  • Dark mode tells panes and borders apart more clearly.

  • Signed and encrypted mail (S/MIME): import your certificate from a .p12 or .pfx file, sign and encrypt as you send, and see who signed a message you read.
  • Certificates on smart cards, in the Windows certificate store and in the macOS Keychain work too, their keys staying where they are.
  • Certificates learnt from signed mail you receive, drafts of encrypted mail kept encrypted, and revocation checks you can turn on.

0.23 October 24, 2026

  • Lookalike senders are pointed out: a domain imitating one you deal with, or a name that shows a different address.
  • Check before sending when a recipient's domain looks like one you write to, or when a message would show many strangers each other's addresses.
  • Photos are sent without where they were taken (you can keep it in File › Options › Safety).
  • Trackers: tracking pictures are never loaded, and links open without their tracking redirects and tags.
  • Hidden text in a message, which spam and some tricks rely on, is brought out for you to read.
  • is:awaiting finds mail still waiting for a reply, and a review of every area made MailCraft sturdier.

0.22 October 22, 2026

  • Reminders pop up for your appointments: snooze, dismiss or open them.
  • Junk Email lists: block senders, or never block a sender or their domain.
  • Clean Up moves messages that a later reply quotes in full to Deleted Items.
  • Search Folders (unread, flagged, large mail, from certain people…) and Quick Steps (Ctrl+Shift+1…9).
  • The calendar's Work Week view; Insert date & time and Word count while writing.
  • Several messages at once, each in its own window, kept if MailCraft closes.
  • Search the server shows results as they're found, and stops when you clear the search box; the search box gains a scope menu, recent searches and Advanced Search.
  • Smoother motion (with a switch to turn animations off), and test builds that update themselves.

0.21 October 21, 2026

  • Starting MailCraft again brings its window forward instead of opening a second copy.
  • Older mail past what's kept on this computer can be shown and searched on the server, for every kind of account.
  • Shared mailboxes as mailboxes of their own; invitations read with their links.

0.20 October 20, 2026

  • Online only accounts keep none of their mail on the computer, and a portable mode runs from a USB stick — see portable email.
  • The window opens on every Windows PC, including ones without a graphics card.
  • Microsoft 365 sign-ins are kept reliably on Windows.

0.19 October 20, 2026

  • Exchange shared mailboxes shown as mailboxes of their own, with folders named as the server names them.
  • An outgoing (SMTP) server can sign in with its own user name and password.

0.18 October 19, 2026

  • Shared mailboxes open under their Exchange account by themselves.
  • A name in a message's header opens a contact card: email them, add or edit the contact, copy the address.

Earlier versions brought the everyday mail workflow, calendar and contacts, Exchange and Microsoft 365, JMAP, POP and Outlook data files. The releases page has every build.
